[Action House 1]

[After having been dumped in Jade's workshop, and getting directions from the colonel himself, the occupants of house 1 might notice a stranger in New Feather clothes passing through. If no one notices or bothers to stop her, she will just walk out the front door in hopes of keeping as much of her dignity intact as possible.

After that B'Elanna goes to the clothing shop, finds her uniform, changes, then seats herself on a bench outside to look over her journal. Which she soon discovers is a communication device.]

I'm looking for tools. Where can I find some?

[Her stomach also decides to take this moment to speak.]

And I hope there's something decent to eat around here.

You have the technology to travel across your entire galaxy?

Easily, yes. A trip from the Core Worlds to the Outer Rim takes a week at most. Maybe only hours if the Hyperspace lane is right.

[She is flabbergasted.]

How?

Hyperspace. Essentially a Hyperdrive opens a way into Hyperspace, a sort of sublayer of our reality. We slip through a sort of subspace at many thousands of times the speed of light.

I had thought your...Warp Drives operated in a similar fashion?

It does. But even at our fastest speeds it would take decades to get from one end of our galaxy to the other. That's actually part of my problem.

Oh? I didn't know Warp transit was so slow.

[Luke looks at something off-screen, and there's a beeping sound of sympathy.]

What's your problem, then?

[Slow? The thought is almost insulting, but it's true compared to what Luke was describing.]

I came from a ship that was taken from one end of the galaxy to the other. At top speed it will take us 70 years to get home.

Well, unfortunately you're going to be heading back to that ship when you leave this world unless something drastic changes. If that happens, I'll gladly see about procuring a hyperdrive for you.

[She's touched by his generosity. They hadn't had that offering of help the last time they encountered someone with the ability to get them home.]

If it could get us home, it would mean a lot.

That's a big if, of course. That's assuming we find a way out that allows travel between realities, you know.

Fascinating... I wonder what the logic was behind changing such a traditional function.

[The Vulcan showed her into the house.] You mentioned that the Captain already offered you residence here? I hope you take him up on the offer, as we have two spare rooms available.

[Spock brings her into a work room in the back of the house where a form of lab was taking shape.] Please forgive the mess. Our previous house was bombed, taking my lab with it. I will have to start from scratch once more.

[She leads the way across the bridge, and then down onto a smooth part of the bank. It's not much -- just a small expanse of grass -- but it's good enough. Quiet.] Have a seat.

[She does just that.]

Oh, my. You must be very hungry.

I realize that, but its still something.

[She nods at his question.]

I don't see why not.

[And if she didn't, Temari would probably give her a hard time about it.]

Bombed?

[She asks this in surprise as she steps inside.]

[And seat herself she does. She also takes a moment to look around. Its peaceful and really quite pretty... for a prison.]

I'm not starving. Our ship has replicators which would normally provide us food, but they take a lot of the ship's power, power we can't afford to waste. So we make stops to stock up on food.

[Spock looked exasperated... for a Vulcan.] Luceti is unstable, at best. Certain dangerous individuals can get brought in at any time... Our house just happened to be the target this particular time. Doctor McCoy's room in particular.

[THAT part he didn't understand though. No matter.]

[Well that's lovely.]

So not only is this a temporal anomaly, its a particularly volatile one.

Indeed.

[Spock couldn't help but feel relief at having someone who understood the situation.]
And one that has proven quite difficult to comprehend. Perhaps with your added presence, we can make some progress in that area.

It just keeps getting better.

[What would be next?]

[She certainly didn't plan to just sit around.]

I am certain you will.

[Spock pulls out a case filled with tiny tiny screwdrivers, pliers.... basically anything you would need to work on small pieces of machinery.]

Consider that you are from an era that is quite far advanced to my own, I am uncertain if my tricorder will be of any use to you.

[Her eyes widen slightly before she practically attacks the case. Sitting wherever is nearby she takes some of the tools, pulls off her combadge and pries it open to reveal the inner circuitry.]

It's better than nothing.

Right. So, what are you trying to do with that commbadge?

[There's a pause.]

It might be better to show you.
