[Today B'Elanna is at the Battle Dome, putting the finishing touches on several of the programs she's created. She's been working on this for some time, and now she's ready to make her announcement to the rest of the village.]

For those that don't know me, I'm B'Elanna Torres. In my world I'm an engineer on a starship, and we have rooms similar to those in the Battle Dome, called holodecks. Programming holoprograms also happens to be one of my specialties.

Since I came here to Luceti I've been programming several of my own simulations from back... "home." I'm making them available for anyone who wants to use them.

They include a handful of holonovels where you can pick a character to play and interact with other characters in a story. Like one of Harry's favorites, Beowulf.

[Yes, she made that one just for you, Harry. Oh the memories.]

There's even a couple for the kids: The Adventures of Flotter and Toby the Targ.

I've also created a Klingon battle simulation, a couple recreational destinations including a tropical resort and French bistro, and orbital skydiving. Also, I've programmed some games that Harry and I can teach you how to play like Parrises Squares, Hoverball, and Velocity.

And if anyone is curious to know what a starship looks like, I've recreated all the main decks of Voyager.

And that's about it. You can find them listed under Torres. Some of them might still need a little tweaking. If you have any problems, just let me know.

[Not long after that, B'Elanna can be found in one of the Battle Dome rooms with her Voyager program running. She's sitting at her station in Main Engineering, looking at the warp core in distant thought.]

You better be. I get cranky when people keep me waiting.

[This is said in a teasing tone. And yes, having someone to fight would be nice. A change of pace for sure.]

[Are you sure you want to open that can of worms, Luke? Her eyes flash with indignant anger. Not at Luke of course, but the topic.]

They're murderers, barbaric and cruel. And the Federation decided to make treaties with them and hand over some of the colonies. Colonies that were our homes.

[Hearing Harry's voice, B'Elanna immediately looks up, a rare smile on her face.]

Hey. I got a few requests, so I've been working on them. Simulations of certain places, a racing program, even a holonovel.

They're available to everyone, yes. They're standard in practically every facility, especially those controlled by Starfleet.

Well... there are a lot of worlds in the Federation, and many outside of it as well. On Earth, there's no poverty like in your time. They don't even use money anymore. Everyone is free to pursue whatever they want, equally. Of course, its not so nice if you're outside of the Federation.

Why don't you come and find out for yourself?

[She thinks she's explained it well enough.]

That's right. Maybe some day they will.

[She continues to work as she talks. Putting in the algorithms, the landscape in the room continues to change.]

All right. That shouldn't take too long.

[She begins her programming as she talks, using the blueprints as her template.]

So what do you know about computer science?

Maybe. We did just get airplanes.

[She can't help it, she has to go inside and watch it form around her.]

[Airplanes huh? That's pretty primitive. She'll keep that in mind.

As Jinora walks in, the buildings take shape. But she'll find that they are empty and devoid of almost any defined rooms. She has no idea what the insides look like after all.

Next, the trees start to appear. She puts clusters of them in the right places, but they won't be the same trees of course.]

The whole species?

[Luke sounds genuinely surprised.]

Yes. The whole damn species.

[She says that with quite a bit of gusto and anger.]

[Honestly Jinora wasn't expecting it to go this fast. She thought it would take weeks of work at the least. So to see the building appear is a surprise.

When this is done will it really almost feel like being home?]

I didn't think it would go this fast.

That's the beauty of computers.

[Other features around the buildings start to appear, including the airbender training grounds.]

What do you need done first?

Oh, well I hate to keep a lady waiting.

[He gives a bit of a smirk before heading over]

I've got the environmental simulations covered, but I could use a hand on the racing program. Think you can design a few racing ships?

Can I design a few racing ships? [He settles in beside her, taking a quick look at the console and then the simulated version of Voyager's engineering.] Watch me.

[He doesn't want to press, but he can't really believe that.

So, subject change.]

Are most groups in your galaxy still maintaining borders and empires based on genetics?

[No poverty on Earth, no money, everyone free to pursue their life's desires. It'd be hard to believe if they weren't living in a village with no money, all needs provided for. But Luceti has its catches and Ginia is still skeptical.]

Sounds like utopia. How did that come about? And this will sound like an obvious question, but what exactly is the Federation?

[B'Elanna will be waiting at the Battle Dome. Busily programming as she waits for him to arrive.]

[B'Elanna grins, and scoots over to allow Harry better access to the console.]

I knew I could count on you.

[It isn't, but B'Elanna has a thorough hatred from Cardassians. She wouldn't trust one as far as she could throw them. But anyway... the subject change is probably a good idea, even if that's a bit of an odd question.]

If you mean species, yes, many do. They have their own territories and borders. But then you have the Federation which is an alliance of several different worlds and species.

Unusual.

[It's hard for him to think outside of something as vast as the Republic, really.]

How many race and worlds make up the Federation?

Formally? ... Over a hundred and fifty members. Last we knew, anyway.

[A lot can happen in three years.]

I wouldn't go that far.

[There's still things like crime and so forth, though its not nearly as common as in Ginia's time. And there's still the occasional war, though not on Earth itself.]

The United Federation of Planets is an alliance of many different worlds and species.
